5. A 3.0-cm tall object is 15 cm in front of a convex mirror that has a -25 cm focal length.
Where is the image located and what is the height of the image? What are the
characteristics of the image (real or virtual, upright or inverted, enlarged or reduced)?

Answer:

The image is located between focus and pole. The image is virtual, upright and reduced.

Explanation:

Here,

focal length[f]= 25 cm

height of object [o] = 3 cm

object distance [u] = 15 cm

image distance [v] = ?

height of image[i] = ?

Now, Using mirror formula,

-1/f = 1/u + 1/[-v]    {since the mirror is convex and the image is virtual. so we           use negative sign }

-1/25 = 1/15 - 1/v

v = 9.375 cm

Again,

magnification=i/o = v/u

i /3 = 9.375/15

i = 1.875cm
