Given :  A 8 m wide lane was paved with bricks of size 20 cm by 15 cm. the rate of brick was ₹.1350 per thousand and bricks worth ₹.60750 were used for pavements,

To find  : the length of the lane.

Solution:

Let say length of  lane = L m

the length in cm = 100L  cm

width = 8m = 800 cm

Area = 100L * 80 = 8000L  cm²

Area of a brick  =  20 x 15  = 300 cm²

Number of bricks required = 8000L/300  = 80L/3

Rate of brick per thousand = 1350

Rate of 1 brick    = 1350/1000  = 135/1000

Rate of  80L/3  bricks  = (80L/3) * (135/1000)  =  (8L) * 45 / 100

= 360L

360L = 60750

=> L = 168.75 m

length of the lane  =  168.75 m
