Correct Question :

  • A man can do a piece of work in 5 days, but with the help of his son it can done in 3 days. In what time can the son do it alone?

Given :

  • A man can do a piece of work in 5 days
  • With the help of his son it can done in 3 days

To Find :

  • In what time can the son do it alone

Solution :

Work done by man = 5 days

  • In a day = 1/5

Work done by his son = x

  • In a day = 1/x

Work done together = 3 days

  • In a day = 1/3

Work done Together = 1/5 + 1/x

⟹ 1/3 = 1/5 + 1/x

⟹ 1/x = 1/5 - 1/3

⟹ 1/x = 2/15

⟹ x = 1/7.5

Son can do it in 7.5 days.
