5. A Naughty Boy and An Old Man
Read the passage carefully.
An old man lived in an old and rickety hut. His hut was right at the end of a narrow
street. He was 75 years old. He was the owner as well as caretaker of a garden. He
loved all the children who came to his garden. His garden consisted of many medicinal
plants. There were many flowering plants also.
One day, a naughty boy entered the garden and started plucking the blooming flowers.
He even started tearing off the fresh green leaves from the plants, 'The boy seems to
be so unkind', thought the old man. He called the boy and angrily asked him, "What
kind of a fellow are you?" "The rude boy pointed towards himself and said, "This fellow
is not answerable to anyone
The annoyed caretaker moved towards the boy and pinched his finger. The boy cried in
pain. Then, the caretaker tactfully told him, "Just as your finger is pained by the pinch,
in the same manner, these friendly plants are also pained when you unsympathetically
tear off their leaves". At this point, the young boy realised his mistake. He changed into
a sympathetic boy. He started loving plants and animals. This way, the old man taught
him a good lesson
