The first time at  which the particle is 15 m from the starting point is 10 seconds.

Explanation:

It is given that,

Initial speed of the particle, u = 2 m/s

Retardation of the particle, a=-0.1\ m/s^2

Distance, d = 15 m

Let t is the time at  which the particle is 15 m from the starting point is. It can be calculated using second equation of motion as :

d=ut+\dfrac{1}{2}at^2

15=2t+\dfrac{1}{2}(-0.1)t^2

On solving the above equation,

t = 10 s

So, the first time at  which the particle is 15 m from the starting point is 10 seconds. Hence, this is the required solution.
