5. A point P is reflected in the x-axis. Coordinates of its image are (8.-6).
(i) Find the coordinates of P.
(it) Find the coordinates of the image of P under reflection in the y-axis.

To Find : (i) Find the coordinates of P.

(it) Find the coordinates of the image of P under reflection in the y-axis.

Solution

Let say coordinate of point P are (x , y)

When reflected in x axis

x - axis remain same , sign of y coordinate get change

hence image when reflected in x  axis is ( x , - y)

image given is ( 8 , -6)

Hence x = 8  , y = 6

Hence P is ( 8 , 6)

When reflected in y axis

y - axis remain same , sign of x coordinate get change

hence image when reflected in x  axis is ( -x , y)

Hence  coordinates of the image of P under reflection in the y-axis.

= ( - 8 , 6)
