5) A schematic of wind mill is given below.
Answer the questions related to it.
a)what is wind turbine?
b)what is function of a gear box?
c)how is this energy useful?
Answers
a). Wind turbines convert the energy in wind to electricity by rotating propeller-like blades around a rotor. The rotor turns the drive shaft, which turns an electric generator. Three key factors affect the amount of energy a turbine can harness from the wind: wind speed, air density, and swept area.
b). The purpose of a gearbox is to increase or reduce speed. As a result, torque output will be the inverse of the speed function. If the enclosed drive is a speed reducer (speed output is less than speed input), the torque output will increase; if the drive increases speed, the torque output will decrease.
c). Energy is useful because ultimately nothing on Earth would be able to survive without it. ... This usually comes from food, which in the case of plants is grown using the energy from sunlight, and for animals is from the energy stored in the plants they eat.
