The magnetic field due to a bar magnet at its end-on- position will be B= u0m/4πd^3

First, let's consider a point on the equatorial line of the bar magnet.

The line perpendicular to the axis of the magnet which bisects the magnet is called the equatorial line.

Let the distance of the point p from the center of magnet be d.

So magnetic field on p due to north Pole which is directed away from the pole be

B1= u0m/4πr^2

B1= u0m/4π(d^2+l^2)

Magnetic field on p due to South Pole which is directed towards the Pole will be

B2= u0m/4πr^2

B2= u0m/4π(d^2+l^2)

The fields are of same magnetic but of different direction

And angle between the field will be 2θ. The resultant magnetic field, B at P is given by

B^2= B1^2+ B2^2+ 2B1B2cos2θ

putting the value of B1, B2 and cosθ= 1/√(d^2+l^2)

we will get B= u0m/4π( d^2+l^2)^3/2

The direction of B is parallel to the axis of the magnet, from north to south pole.

If the magnet is very short, d>>l

the magnetic field at P is

the magnetic field at P is B= u0m/4πd^3
