let the age of andrew=x

and the age of Ethan =30-x

therefore:

(30-x)x = 216

30x-x^2 = 216

0 = x^2-30x +216

0 = x^2-18x-12x+216

0 = x(x-18)-12(x-18)

0 = (x-12) (x-18)

x=12or18

age of andrew= 18( as he is older)

age of ethan= 12
