Solution:-

Here, Let the age of Sunil be x years.

Then age of Anil is x + 4 years.

Now, 8 years ago ratio of Anil and Sunil ages was 3 : 1.

Therefore, \dfrac{(x + 4) - 8}{x - 8} = \dfrac{3}{1}

             ⇒ \dfrac{x + 4 - 8}{x - 8} = \dfrac{3}{1}

             ⇒ \dfrac{x - 4}{x - 8} = \dfrac{3}{1}

             ⇒ 1(x - 4) = 3( x - 8 )

             ⇒ x - 4 = 3x - 24

             ⇒ 3x - x = 24 - 4

             ⇒ 2x = 20

             ⇒ x = \dfrac{20}{2}

             ⇒ x = 10

Hence, Present age of Sunil is 10 years.

And, Present age of Anil is ( 10 + 4 ) = 14 years.
