5. Ankur is rowing a boat with a force of 500 N, while running water exerts a force of 300 N. Calculate
the resultant force acting on the boat under the following conditions:
() When the boat is going downstream (i.e., in the direction water is flowing).
(ii) When the boat is going upstream (i.e., in the direction opposite to the direction of flow of water

Answer:

i)800N

ii)200N

Explanation:

i)When downstream it is ADDITION OF THE FORCE(resultant)

Downstream = (u+v)Km/hr, (500+300=800)

where “u” is the speed of the boat in still water and “v” is the speed of the stream.

ii)When upstream it is SUBTRACTION OF THE FORCE(resultant)

Upstream = (u−v) km/hr, (500-300=200)

where “u” is the speed of the boat in still water and “v” is the speed of the stream.
