5. Around a rectangular plot of size 20 m * 15 m, there is a garden 5 m wide. Find the total area of the garden
and the cost of developing it at the cost of 64 per square metre.

Length and breadth of garden = 10 m , 5 m

Length of the extended road = 1 m

Area of the road = Area of total land - Area of garden

Area of garden = 10 × 5

=》 50 sq. m

Area of total land = l × b

The main thing here, is to find the extended length and breadth

Extended length = 10 + 1 + 1 (as the road is around the garden, so according to the figure, the length will be extended from both the sides)

=》 12 m

Similarly, Extended breadth = 5 + 1 + 1

=》 7 m

Area of total land = 12 × 7

=》 84 sq. m

Area of the road = 84 - 50 sq. m

=》 34 sq. m

Cost of levelling the road = Rs. 100 per sq. m

=》 Cost for 34 sq. m = 100 × 34

=》Rs. 3400
