5.Blood – The mobile connective tissue The average person has about 5 litres (more than a gallon) of blood. Blood is a fluid connective tissue. It is devoid of any types of fibres. It consists of fluid matrix plasma and blood cells. The plasma consists of 90-92% of water, 6-8% proteins that help blood to clot, fight infections and ions like Ca2+, Cl- etc. About half of blood volume is composed of blood cells. The blood cells are present in different percentage in blood. The blood cells are of three types – Erythrocytes or Red Blood Cells, Leucocytes or White Blood Cells, Thrombocytes or Blood platelets.
