One night Boldero heard a sound oh a thump, and he got to know it was a tiger. That was the sound that broke all the stillness.

• The night was dark and quiet, as Baldeo and his son Tembu watch in the middle of the jungle in a small hut.
• They had to make sure that the signal lamp was still burning and that the railway tunnel was free of any obstacles that might prevent the mail train from passing.
• But things got a lot more complicated on this particular night. The night's silence was broken by a tiger's deep, insistent growl in the nearby jungle.
