Five chemical reactions which support life are :

1. Digestion : Thousands of chemical reactions take place during digestion. As soon as we put food in our mouth an enzyme in the saliva called amylase starts to break down sugars and other carbohydrates into simpler forms your body can absorb. Hydrochloric acid in the stomach reacts with food to break it down.

2. Anaerobic Respiration : Our muscles cells perform anaerobic respiration whenever we exhaust the oxygen being delivered to them, like during intense or prolonged exercise. It involves a set of chemical reactions that allow cells to gain energy from complex molecules without oxygen.

3. Aerobic Cellular Respiration : In this energy molecules are combined with oxygen to release energy needed by our cells.

4. Photosynthesis : Plants convert carbon dioxide and water into food and oxygen by a chemical reaction which is called photosynthesis.

5. Cooking and Cleaning : Chemical reactions are involved in cooking and cleaning.
