Answer:

If the boy would have walked fast, he would have reached in time.

If here is a conjuction.

A conjuction is a word or phrase which joins together words or sentences or parts of sentences.

There can be two classes of conjuctions:

  • Co-ordinating conjuction:

it joins together words, phrases or clauses of equal rank or importance( i.e. they are independent)

Eg: Molly sang and Polly danced.

The two statements 'Molly sang' & 'Polly danced' are of equal rank &none is dependent on the other for its meaning. Therefore, Co-ordinating means ranking equally.

The common coordinating conjuctions are : and,but,for,still,either...or,neither...nor, etc.

  • Subordinating Conjuction

It joins a clause to another clause where one clause(subordinate clause) is dependent on another (principal clause)for its full meaning.

Eg: He said that he was ill.

I will come if you invite me.

'that he was ill' is dependent on 'He said' for its full meaning. Independently, 'That he was ill' has no sense.

The common subordinating conjunctioms are : After, before, when, where, why, how, till, although,if,as,then, since, etc.

thanks!
