Rumours were that king might open fire upon the citizens, because of which 7,000 men and women gathered around the town hall and searched for ammunition. They stormed into the fortress prison, the Bastille, to acquire the arms and ammunition.
Prisoners were released from the prison and also the commander of the prison was killed. They destroyed the fortress completely as it was the symbol of the Undemocratic power of the King. Later, the pieces of the stone were sold in the market as Bastille was hated by all. This movement marked the beginning of the French Revolution.
