Differences between MICROSPOROGENESIS & MEGASPOROGENESIS:-

》MICROSPOROGENESIS-

  1. It occurs inside the microsporangia of anther
  2. Many microspore mother cells are produced in a microsporangium
  3. All the four microspore tetrads are functional
  4. The structure formed at the end of this event is microspore

》MEGASPOROGENESIS-

  1. It occurs in the nucellus of the ovule/megasporangium
  2. Only one megaspore mother cell is differentiated in a megasporangium
  3. Only one of the four megaspore cell is functional and three of them degenerates
  4. The structure formed at the end of this event is megaspore

》COMMON FOR BOTH-

  • Meiosis occur during both microsporogenesis and megasporogenesis.
