Difference between Anabolism & Catabolism :

1] Introduction :

Anabolism : Metabolic process that builds molecules the body needs.

Catabolism : Metabolic process that breaks down large molecules into smaller molecules.

2] Energy

Anabolism : Requires energy

Catabolism : Releases energy

3] Hormones

Anabolism : Estrogen, testosterone, insulin, growth hormone.

Catabolism : Adrenaline, cortisol, glucagon, cytokines.

4] Effects on Exercise

Anabolism : exercises, which are often anaerobic in nature, generally build muscle mass.

Catabolism : Catabolic exercises are usually aerobic and good at burning fat and calories.

5] Example

Anabolism : amino acids becoming polypeptides (proteins), glucose becoming glycogen, fatty acids becoming triglycerides.

Catabolism : proteins becoming amino acids, proteins becoming glucose, glycogen becoming glucose, or triglycerides becoming fatty acids.
