Let merchant has bought sugar at rate of re.1 per kg.

so total C.P. is Rs.100.

Now he sell x kg at profit of 7% and (100-x) kg at profit of 17%.

C.P. of x kg is Rs.x.

So S.P. of x kg should be x + x*7/100 = 1.07x.

And

C.P. of (100-x) kg is Rs.(100-x).

S.P. of (100-x) kg should be (100-x) + (100-x)*17/100 =1.17*(100-x) = (117-1.17x).

Total S.P.= 1.07x + (117-1.17x)= 117-0.1x.

Since Total C.P. is rs.100, So S.P. at 10% whole gain will be Rs.110.

Equating S.P.

117-0.1x=110

0.1x=7

x=70 kg. which will be sold at 7% gain.

So 100-70= 30 kg will be sold at 17% gain.

So Ans is 30kg.
