Answer:

Displacement Reaction :

A kind of a. reaction in which the more reactive element replaces the less reactive element during reaction. For example:

  1. CuSo4 + Fe =FeSo4 +Cu,Here, the copper (more reactive element )have replaced the iron (Cu-Fe)
  2. AgNo3+Cu =CuNo3 + Ag(Cu-Ag) Cu replaced Ag
  3. FeSo4 + Zn = ZnSo4+Fe(Zn-Fe) Zinc replaced iron
  4. PbSo4+Fe =FeSo4+Pb(Fe-Pb) Fe replaced Pb (mercury)

5. CuSo4+Mg =MgSo4+Cu (Cu-Mg)

Cu replaced Mg

1. Chlorine displaces bromine from an aqueous solution of sodium bromide.

Cl2 + 2NaBr --------> 2NaCl + Br2

2. Bromine splaces iodine from potassium iodide solution.

Br2 +2Kl ------------> 2KBr+ I 2

3. If a strip of magnesium metal is placed in copper sulphate solution, the blue colour of copper sulphate disappears and the magnesium metal turns brown as the displaced copper is deposited on it. In the reactivity series, the position of magnesium is above that of copper. So it is more reactive than copper and it would displace copper from copper sulphate solution.

Mg + CuSo4 ---------->MgSo4 +Cu

4. Iron displaces lead from the aqueous solution of lead nitrate. Fe + Pb(No3)2 ---------> Fe (No3)2 +Pb

5. The metals such as potassium, sodium, lithium, etc. react more vigorously with dilute acids forming metal salts and hydrogen gases.

2Na +2HCl --------->2NaCl +H2

2K + H2SO4 ------->K2SO4 +H2
