The work done is the measure of force applied on a body which acquires a certain displacement. As force and displacement both are a vector quantity, their product, work is also a vector quantity.
Thereby, the work done can be a negative work done. A negative work done is work done when the force applied and displacement achieved are not in the same direction of motion.
Examples of negative work done are thus as follows –
a. The push of a block on a frictional surface
b. Climbing a tree against the gravitational force
c. Drowning of ship against the water buoyant force
d. Kicking a moving football while in motion
e. The adventure sport of Tug of war while opponents pulling the rope hard.
