The change of state of matter from one state to another state and back to the original state of matter is known as inter-conversion of matter.
- Melting - The conversion of a solid to its liquid state is melting. Example - Ice to water
- Vaporisation - The conversion of a liquid to its gaseous state i.e. vapours by heating is vaporisation.
- Liquefaction - The conversion of vapour in the gaseous state to its liquid state by cooling is liquefaction.
- Solidification - The conversion of a liquid to its solid-state by freezing is solidification. Example - Water to Ice
- Sublimation - The conversion of a solid directly to gaseous form and on cooling back to the solid-state is sublimation
