Introduction:

The lithosphere basically is the solid most outer layer of the Earth. The lithosphere is made up of the Earth's outermost layers, the brittle top part of the mantle and the crust. The atmosphere surrounds it on top, while the asthenosphere surrounds it on the bottom.

Explanation:

Tectonic activity is the most well-known phenomenon linked with the Earth's lithosphere. The interplay of huge lithosphere slabs known as tectonic plates is explained by tectonic activity.

The lithosphere is the surface of rock and crust that basically  covers the Earth. The lithosphere is represented by the Rocky Mountain range in western North America. The rocky lithosphere contains a portion of the upper mantle and crust. All terrestrial planets have lithospheres. Mercury's, Venus's, and Mars' lithospheres are more thicker and more hard than Earth's.

Concept: The brittle upper part of the Earth's mantle and the crust, which is the planet's outermost layer, make up the lithosphere, the solid outer layer of the planet. It is enveloped by the asthenosphere below and the atmosphere above (another part of the upper mantle of the Earth).

The Greek terms lithos, which translate to "rocky," and sphaira, which means "sphere," are the origin of the phrase "lithosphere." Geographers use the phrase to describe a layer of the Earth that, depending on location and the type of the generally hard and brittle rocks, reaches from the surface to a depth of 80 to 120 miles. It is one of the four main spheres that make up the Earth system, along with the hydrosphere, biosphere, and atmosphere.

Rocks from the Earth's two main strata make up the lithosphere (crust and the mantle of the Earth). The uppermost part of the next-lower layer, known as the mantle, as well as the entire planet's thin outer shell, known as the crust, are both contained inside it. The thickness of the lithosphere fluctuates; it is greatest underneath the continents and lowest at mid-ocean ridges, which are raised regions of the seafloor where new seafloor crust is created.
