Consider one gram mole of ideal gas initially with pressure, volume and temperature as P, V, T, Let the gas expand to a volume V2, when pressure reduces to P2 and at the same temperature T

If A = Area of cross – section of piston

Force = Pressure × Area

F = P x A  

If we assume that piston moves a displacement d x,  the work done :

→ d w = F d x

d w = P × A × d x  

d w = P × d v

Total work done in increasing the volume from V1 to V2
