In the figure,

we can see that there are 11 full squares.

we can also see that there are 9 squares which are more than a half.

total number of squares \large\rm { = 9+11}

\large\rm { = 20}

area of 1 square = \large\rm { 1 \times 1}

\large\rm { = 1 \ cm^{2}}

area of 20 squares = \large\rm { 20 \times 1}
