5 friends live in the same road A, B, C, D, E. The numbers of B, C, D when multiplied together equals 8424. B is a prime number The numbers B,C, D when added equal twice E’s number, and A, C and E are even reast are odd. A’s number is half as much as E’s. The road numbers run from 12 to 222. A’s number is half as much as E’s.

The road numbers run from 12 to 222.

To Find : The value of E

Solution:

8424 = 2 x 2 x 2 x  3 x 3 x 3 x 3  x 13

B * C * D = 8424

Prime numbers 2 , 3 and 13

road numbers run from 12 to 222

Hence B is 13 as   B is a prime number

=> C * D = 8424/13 = 648

A, C and E are even

B & D are odd

B = odd  = 13

D  can be  3 ,  9  , 27 , 81 ,

D can  be 27 or 81    as road numbers run from 12 to 222

C * D = 648

Hence C  can be 24 or  8     so   8   not possible

Hence C  = 24  and  D  = 27

B = 13  , C = 24 , D  =27

The numbers B,C, D when added equal twice E’s number,

=> 13 + 24 + 27= 2 ( E)

=> E = 32

A is half of E = 32/2 = 16

Value of E id 32

also B + C + D = 2 x E,

A = E +(E/2)

we can solve this by finding the factor of 1260

again we have a condition that the numbers are between 2 to 222

now group the factors of 1260

There are 36 factors of 1260:

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 18,20, 21, 28, 30, 35, 36, 42, 45, 60, 70, 84, 90,105, 126, 140, 180, 210, 252, 315, 630, 1260

as per the condition we must use only numbers between 2 & 222

therefore the count is reduced to 29 from 36
