function of high court :

original jurisdiction-

  • civil and criminal cases are filed in the original jurisdiction of high court.
  • cases relating to marriage, disputes between property, divorce are filed in the original jurisdiction of the high court.
  • all cases relating to revenues are filed in the original jurisdiction of the high court.

appellate jurisdiction-

  • civil and criminal cases can be filed in the appellate jurisdiction of the high court against the decision of the District court and sub ordinate judge.
  • cases relating to question of law where interpretation of the constitution is required can be filed in the high court.

5 powers of the high court :

  • the high court issues writs such as Certiorari, Mandamus, Habeas corpus,Prohibition ect.
  • the high court control over the sub ordinate courts.
  • the high courts take up cases from sub ordinate courts to itself, it can also transform it from one court to another.
  • the high court judge the validity of the central and state laws .
  • like the supreme court , the high court also act as a court of records.
