a. Molecular motion for the particles in a solid is confined to very small vibrations of the atoms around their fixed positions; therefore, solids have a fixed shape that is difficult to change. Solids also have a definite volume; that is, they keep their size no matter how you try to change them.

b.Liquids expand for the same reason, but because the bonds between separate molecules are usually less tight they expand more than solids. ... Heat causes the molecules to move faster, (heat energy is converted to kinetic energy ) which means that the volume of a gas increases more than the volume of a solid or liquid.

c. solids:They are held tightly together by strong forces of attraction. They are held in fixed positions but they do vibrate. Because the particles don't move, solids have a definite shape and volume, and can't flow. LIQUIDS - This means that liquid particles are further apart and can move about more easily.
