5. Give reasons for the following:
a) In Tamil Nadu, more rainfall takes place in winter season as compared to summer season.

5) a) The dry season is from February to early June. Tamil Nadu gets rains during the monsoon season due to the southwest trade winds which blow towards the northern hemisphere. Tamil Nadu receives rainfall in the winter season due to the northeast trade winds.

b) Cherrapunji or Mawsynram is on the Windward side of the Khasi hills. It receives rain from the South West Monsoon Bay of Bengal Branch as it is in the Pathway of these winds. Hence because of the high hills it receives heavy relief rain.
