Five harmful effects of factories on the environment are-

  1. The wastes released from the factories are discharged into the water bodies. It contains various harmful chemicals that cause water pollution.
  2. The dumping of industrial wastes in landfill sites affect the fertility of soil and cause soil pollution when harmful chemicals seep into the soil.
  3. Factories use several raw materials for manufacturing and hence, use the natural resources that destroy the habitat of plants and wildlife.
  4. Gases released from chimneys are harmful to the environment and human health. It causes air pollution.
  5. The gases released from factories contain carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, methane etc. that are responsible for greenhouse effect and cause global warming.
