Lucie was very sad to find her father mentally and physically broken , as her father's voice was faint, he was weak and his bones were transparent and he takes time to reply a single question and also he has been alone after his release from his 18 years of prison and he has forgotten his past memories as he didn't recognize Mr. Lorry .

No, I don't think Lucie expected her father to be in that state as she didn't knew that her father was in prison for 18 years for false allegations. She expected him to be in better condition as she knew that he was a renowned doctor.
