Topography means the nature of land. It has a great impact on the growth of settlements. Mostly people will try to settle in river valleys where the land is fertile and the water is easily available. In pains it is easy to develop the different means of transport which facilitate the movement of people from one place to another. In mountainous areas the growth of settlements is restricted because of rugged terrain and lack of transportation and communication.
