Sun gets its energy from the nuclear furnace that lies at its centre. The fuel used by this furnace is Hydrogen gas and the output is helium gas. There is big enough stock of Hydrogen Gas, such big that it will take 5 billion year to use all Hydrogen present in the sun even though it burn 600 million tonnes of Hydrogen every second.  Sun uses Nuclear Fusion process to create energy. In Nuclear Fusion, Hydrogen nucleus combines to form helium nucleus. But the mass of helium nucleus is lighter than combined mass of Hydrogen from which it has made.
