A litmus paper is a synthetic dye which is used to detect the chemical nature of a solution.

There are two types of litmus papers- blue and red.

1.for a acidic solution , blue litmus changes to red litmus.

2.for a basic solution, red litmus changes to blue litmus.

3.If no change is observed in either of the litmus papers, it is a neutral solution.
