Take a bell jar and out an electric bell in it and close the jar mouth with a elastic cover and make a hole in it..... Through the hole join a Vaccum Pump and take out away all the air inside it.. now on the bell..... You will notice that u can't hear anything.... This indicates that sound needs a medium to propagate....

Hope you may got it

Answer:

Sound needs a material medium for their propagation like solid, liquid or gas to travel because the molecules of solid, liquid and gases carry sound waves from one point to another. Sound cannot progress through the vacuum because the vacuum has no molecules which can vibrate and carry the sound waves.
