Solution:

Given,

→ 3x + 5y = 22 – (i)

→ 5x + 3y = 18 – (ii)

We have to find out the value of x + y

So, on adding equations (i) and (ii), we get,

→ 8x + 8y = 40

→ 8(x + y) = 40

→ x + y = 40/8

→ x + y = 5

So, the value of x + y is 5.

Answer:

  • x + y = 5

Additional:

What is the value of x - y here?

Solution:

Subtracting (i) from (ii), we get,

→ 2x - 2y = -4

→ 2(x - y) = -4

→ x - y = -2

So, the value of x - y is -2

Answer:

3x + 5y = 22

5x + 3y = 18

Adding both the equation:

8x + 8y = 40

Dividing by 8 on both the side:

x + y = 5

Hope this would help you.
