The first antibiotic discovered by scientist Dr. Alexander Flemming and antibiotics is penicillin .


1) Antibiotics are the substance produced in small amounts by certain microbes to initiate the growth of other microbes . they may be anti- fungal or anti- bacterial in nature.


2) Antibiotics is a drug derived from living matter of micro-organism , used to kill or prevent the growth of other micro-organism .


3) Antibiotics are very specific in their actions.
A particular antibiotics affects , against a certain type of micro-organism only .

4) Those antibiotics which are effective against a wide range of gram positive and gram Negative bacteria are known as broad spectrum antibiotics . e.g chloraphenical , ampicillin , amoxicillin etc.

5) Wheres those antibiotics which are effective against either gram positive or gram Negative bacteria are known as narrow spectrum antibiotics .e.g penicillin.
