so,x + y = 40
so, y = 40-x
therefore , the length is x and breadth is 40-x
given area = 400m^2
length * breadth = 400m^2
ie, x(40-x)=400
ie, x^2- 40x + 400
apply quadratic formula
we get X = 20 , 20
therefore length = 20
breadth=20
