Neither cotton nor iron weighs heavier because both have the same mass.

We have to identify which one will be heavier, 5 kg cotton or 5kg iron.

Concepts :

  • If the masses of two different bodies are same and located in the same earth's surface, then weight of body also will be the same.
  • Here, Both, 5kg cotton and 5kg iron have the same weight so the both will weigh the same, no one is heavier.
  • But if you choose the same volume of cotton and iron, iron will be heavier cause iron has higher density than that of cotton.

Here, 5kg cotton weight = mass × acceleration due to gravity

=  5kg × 10 m/s²  = 50 N

And 5 kg iron weight = mass of iron × acceleration due to gravity

= 5 kg × 10 m/s² = 50 N

You see, the weights of both of them are same. It indicates that neither cotton nor iron weighs heavier.

Therefore neither cotton nor iron weighs heavier because both have the same mass.
