1.Dandi travel i.e. salt satyagraha was started on 12 March 1930. The 24-day non-violence under Mahatma Gandhi reached Dandi on March 6 and broke the British Law
2.At that time the British had rule over the country and any Indian was barred from collecting or selling the salt. Not only this, Indians had to buy salt from the British. In the matter of making salt, the British monopoly used to move and also used to charge huge tax on salt. Salt Satyagraha was a big rally against British tyranny.
3.By reaching the sea shore in Dandi, Mahatma Gandhi illegally made salt and broke British salt laws. Later on it became a big salt satyagraha and thousands of people not only made salt, but also bought illegal salt while defying the English law.
4.The salt satyagraha started with about 80 people. As the journey grew from Ahmedabad to Dandi, people went on joining this 390-km long journey. Until reaching the stalk, more than 50 thousand people had joined this non-violent salt satyagraha.
5.The way the Salt Satyagraha went ahead without any violence and breaking the single-heldely law of the British by decency, it started discussing around the world. This Dandi March shook the British rule. Newspapers gave plenty of space to the Satyagraha and this gave a new direction to India’s independence movement.
