Teachers Day is celebrated to commemorate the great Indian educationist, philosopher, statesman, and a great human being, Dr. Saravpalli Radhakrishnana. After he became the President of India, many of his students wanted to celebrate his birthday on 5th September as a big event. This humble man appealed to them to celebrate his birthday as Teachers’ Day.
So, Teachers Day is celebrated in schools in India to pay homage and express gratitude to all the teachers who hold a very high place in the Indian cultural ethos. Educational institutes various programmes to honour teachers. At national level, the Indian Government honours and awards merit certificates to exemplary teachers every year for their dedicated services and great contributions to the society and nation.
