The merits of democracy are :

1. Democracy is form of government where the representatives are elected by the people.

2. Democracy follows a procedure before arriving at a decision so that it could be effective and acceptable to the people.

3. Democracy provides transperancy to the citizens. There is no wall between the people and their government.

4. Democracy provides regular, free and fair elections.

5. Citizens have right to information about the government and its functioning.

The demerits of democracy are :

1. Democracy might lead to the delaying of the decisions due to extensive debates on a single topic.

2. Sometimes democracy fails to provide free and fair election and doesn’t allow its citizens to question every decision.

3. Also, sometimes transparency between citizens and the government don't exist.

4. Democracy fails to provide justice to every citizen as culprits use the very laws of democracy to escape judiciary.

5. It fails to execute certain good plans just because of minority appeasement.
