5 ml of water was taken in a test-tube and a china dish separately. These samples were subjected to different conditions as given below: i) Both the samples were kept under a fan ii) Both the samples were kept inside a cupboard. State in which case evaporation will be faster? Give reason to support your answer. How does the rate of evaporation change if the above activity is carried out on a rainy day? Explain your answer.

Answer:

Fastest evaporation would take place in the water poured in the China dish under a fan than a testube under a fan and cupboard.

Explanation:

The factors affecting the rate of evaporation are:-

1. Temperature

2. Wind

3. Humidity

4. Surface area

So in the first case, the 5ml water are kept in china dish and under a fan. So the rate of evaporation will be fastest because the surface area and wind are large . But , this 5ml water in the testube under a fan the rate of evaporation is slowest because the surface area is less.

In the second case , the 5ml water is poured in china dish and kept in cupboard and the evaporation would not be faster because the surface area is large but there is no supply of air or wind. But , this 5 ml water is poured in testube and kept in cupboard the evaporation would be more slower. It is because, both the factors are not present and they are surface area is also small and wind is not supplied. That's why the evaporation is fastest in china dish under a fan.

And if this activity is carried on a rainy day , then in both the cases the process of evaporation would be slow because of the effect of moisture or humidity is more on a rainy day . And so , it would not let the evaporation of water carried out easily. So , this activity should be carried on a dry , summer day .
