Therefore 20 oxen and 20 cows take '5 days' to consume the whole field.

Given:

5 oxen or 10 cows can eat the grass in a field in 30 days.

To Find:

The number of days 20 oxen and 20 cows takes to consume the grass.

Solution:

The given question can be solved very easily as shown below.

Let the total quantity of the grass is '300 units'.

Oxen:

5 oxen can eat '300 units' of grass in 30 days.

⇒ Number of units of grass eaten by 5 oxen in 1 day = 300/30 = 10 units

⇒ Number of units of grass eaten by 1 ox in 1 day = 10/5 = 2 units

Cows:

10 cows can eat '300 units' of grass in a field in 30 days.

⇒ Number of units of grass eaten by 10 cows in 1 day = 300/30 = 10 units

⇒ Number of units of grass eaten by 1 cow in 1 day = 10/10 = 1 unit

⇒ Number of units of grass eaten by 20 oxen in 1 day = 20 × 2 = 40 units

⇒ Number of units of grass eaten by 20 cows in 1 day = 20 × 1 = 20 units

⇒ Number of units of grass eaten by 20 oxen and 20 cows in 1 day = 40 + 20 = 60 units

Number of days taken to graze the field by 20 cows and 20 oxen = ( Total amount of grass )/( Total grass eaten per day )

⇒ Number of days taken to graze the field by 20 cows and 20 oxen = 300/60 = 5 days.

Therefore 20 oxen and 20 cows take '5 days' to consume the whole field.
