Correct question :- Cost of 5 pencils and 7 pens together is Rs. 195 and 7 pencil and 5 pen cost Rs. 153 together. Find the cost of 1 pencil and 1 pen.

Solution :-

Let the cost of one pencil and one pen be Rs. x any Rs. y respectively.

According to the given condition,

We get

5x + 7y = 195 ---(1)

7x + 5y= 153 ---(2)

By elimination method,

Multiplying equation (1) by 7

7( 5x + 7y = 195 )

35x + 49y = 1365 ---(3)

Multiplying equation (2) by 5

5( 7x + 5y = 153)

35x + 25y = 765 ---(4)

Subtracting equation (2) &(3)

We get,

24y = 600

y = 600/24

y = 25

Substituting the value of y = 25 in equation (1)

5x + 7(25) = 195

5x + 175 = 195

5x = 20

x = 4

Therefore, the cost of one pencil and pen is Rs. 4 and Rs. 25 respectively.
