We currently face unprecedented times – the world is going through a pandemic and our daily lives have changed greatly. This change has perhaps been felt most greatly by students. In usual circumstances, children could attend school, and learn in a structured manner.
For most student, this is currently not possible, however. Most schools are closed and students are facing elearning challenges as they attempt to study from home. In this article, we look at eLearning problems, and the common problems students face during quarantine:
1. Staying focused
At the top of our list we have focus. Working from home is difficult – you must be discipline and focused. With so many distractions like your computer, TV, and smartphone, staying focused can be incredibly difficult.
You can use things like a research paper writing service to help remain focused and manage your workload. Working with a paper writer when writing papers can give you structure to your essay writing. In addition, to help with focus, it is ideal to remove all potential distractions from your work area like TV, and your smartphone.
2. A lack of social engagement
We know that the primary aim of school is to educate students. Another vital aspect of the school environment, however, is the social aspect. Students go to school and meet with their friends. Furthermore, they learn how to communicate and develop important skills like teamwork and social etiquette.
During quarantine, these important skills may be diminished. It is therefore important for students to try and speak with their friends still using the internet – so that they get that all-important social interaction.
3. A lack of constructive feedback
As students, we often think that teachers are just there to interfere – that they serve no real purpose except to annoy us.
It is not until a situation like this that we realize how valuable teachers are. Not only do they provide structure and knowledge, but they also offer constructive feedback and encouragement. Whilst in quarantine, you may suffer from that lack of feedback.
How do you know if your essays are up to scratch? How do you know what areas you need to improve on? Criticism and feedback is vital for progression. Ideally, teachers should provide online feedback and give you the means to contact them for help during quarantine.
4. Inferior equipment and software
Some students may not have the luxury of advanced computer equipment and software in their homes. They may rely on the equipment that their school provides in order to study and learn effectively.
The first way to combat this is to contact the school and see if they can provide any additional support and equipment. In most instances, the school should be able to provide all the software you require, or access to special studying tools. Moreover, they may even provide a laptop that you can take home and work from effectively.
5. A lack of organization
One of the main benefits of the construct of school is the organization and structure that it provides. Students have rigid lesson structures and a strict timetable – this gives them clear direction and allows them to remain focused on specific subjects.
Furthermore, it helps with time management, and ensures that sufficient time is devoted to each topic. Whilst working from home, this organization is lost. Students may not utilize their time as efficiently and may suffer due to that lack of structure that school offers.
To combat this, creating a timetable for each day of the week helps greatly – you can allocate hour-periods to each subject and even set reminders on your phone.
