Two coils, X of 12000 turns and Y f 15000 turns, lie in parallel planes so that 45% of the flux produced by coil X links coil Y. A current of 5 A in X produces 0.05Wb while the same current in Y produces 0.075Wb.

Given: turns of coil X is 12000, turns of coil Y is 1500, current in X is 5 A  and in Y is 5 A .

To find: The mutual inductance?

Solution:

  • Now we have given some values, they are:
  • turns of coil X is 12000, turns of coil Y is 1500, current in X and Y is 5 A , flux in X is 0.05 Wb and in Y is 0.075 Wb.
  • Now we have given that two coil lie in parallel plane and 45% of the flux produced by coil X links coil Y.
  • Now induced emf is equal to mutual inductance.
  • Mutual inductance is:

                 M(21) = N x ∅ / I

  • So putting the values in it, we get:

                 M(21) = 12000 x 0.45 x 0.05 / 5

                 M(21) = 12 x 45 x 0.5 / 5

                 M(21) = 12 x 9 x 0.5

                 M(21) = 108 / 2

                 M(21) = 54 = M(21)

Answer:

So the mutual inductance is 5.4 Henry.
