Beginning: Yukio lived in a village where people fished and hunted
whales for a living. Yukio's father was a whale hunter, too. One day, Yukio
asked his father and his grandfather why they hunted whales. His father
said that it was all he knew to do. After hearing this, Yukio went for a walk
on the beach. There, he suddenly saw a large whale stuck in between the
rocks. Yukio ran and got a small bucket of water ...
Middle:
The whale was moving again with each new wave. Suddenly, a great big
one lifted the whale off the rocks. He shook his tail and was out in the
sea. The villagers watched silently as the whale swam away. Then, they
turned and walked towards the village, except for Yukio, who was asleep
in his father's arms. He was tired after carrying a thousand buckets of
