. Natural Variability The interaction of natural environment with human decisions changes land use pattern. However some natural changes also leads to change in land use pattern. For eg: Some wet conditions leads to development of rangeland but with sudden drought or drier conditions, it gets converted to barren land.

2.Economic and Technological factors Economic policies like subsidise on land, altering prices or taxes etc. also influence the decision making process among humans leading to change in land use pattern. The advancment of technology has also converted land into agriculture land or subsistence agriculture into intensive agriculture etc.

3.Demographic Factors Increase and decrease of population largely affects land use pattern.Other factors affecting it are migration, rural uraban population distribution and urbanisation.

4.Cultural factors The attitude, relegious beleifs, history, values and individual perception collectively change the land use pattern. The ecological consequences are also dependent on the knowledge and managarial skills of the land manager as well as political and economic policies.
